Affordable Living and Retirement in Nova Scotia, Canada

If you’re budget-minded, don’t mind a bit of cold weather (or are seeking the perfect warm-weather retreat), love seafood, and have a historic mindset, then Nova Scotia is the place for you.

During the late 19th-century, Nova Scotia beckoned a select group of wealthy families, who traveled by train and steamer to their grand seaside Victorian “cottages” from New York, Boston, Philadelphia and other industrial hotbeds.

Little has changed in 100 years at this summer colony in the North Atlantic: The atmosphere is still somewhat staid, unhurried and family-oriented. The pristine coast is uncrowded and less developed than anywhere in North America; the real estate still costs just a fraction of that in the United States and Europe.

Nova Scotia, located on Canada’s Atlantic coast east of Maine, is shaped like a lobster with its claws grasping toward the remote province of Newfoundland and its tail pointing in the direction of New York and Boston. Latin for “New Scotland,” Nova Scotia is named for its resemblance to the homeland of some its first European settlers. The Scottish print on this land is large, but so is that of the Irish, French and the British—with each culture having left its mark.

About half the size of New York State with a population just under a million, Nova Scotia boasts 3,600-miles of craggy shoreline sprinkled with scenic fishing villages and quaint small towns. Long a destination for vacationers and retirees from throughout Canada, in recent years, the once sleepy region has been attracting American and European transplants with its seductive beauty, rich history, slow pace, proximity to the United States and, of course, affordable real estate.

Perhaps nowhere in Nova Scotia is the official label “Canada’s Ocean Playground” more pronounced than on the South Shore. In the heart of this region along Nova Scotia’s picturesque Lighthouse Route lies White Point Estates, a charming oceanside residential community developed amid White Point Beach Resort & Country Club—once a private lodge for well-heeled outdoorsmen. On prime oceanfront fringed by white sand beaches, lush woodlands and a flowing river, White Point, is a microcosm of the best of Nova Scotia. With its laid-back historic ambience and hypnotic water views, the new seaside enclave seems almost too good to be true.

In the midst of a sprawling 159-room resort with lodges and private cottages and a 9-hole CPGA-rated golf course to boot, White Point offers a variety of lots to build on. They range from 3/4 of an acre to roughly 2 acres and are priced starting at $45,000. Building lot choices offer something for everyone; including gently-sloping wooded spreads and stunning oceanfront (and waterview) sites. Here, in-the-know expatriates and Canadians are buying lots to build vacation and full-time residences in an area where they will rub elbows with cosmopolitan transplants, tourists, seafarers and locals. So far, a handful of lots have been sold, but given their prices and the accompanying amenities, including a a host of services and recreational opportunities, they are sure to go fast. And, White Point will work with you through every step of the home-building process.

Sales of vacation and future retirement properties in places like White Point Estates are booming, real estate specialists say. Cost-conscious and city-weary arrivals from afar increasingly seek respite and new starts in Nova Scotia. No wonder the maritime province is increasingly lighting up the radar screens of those searching for an affordable alternative to traditional vacation, second home and retirement retreats, where rising home prices have left many priced-out of the market.

Since the media—including the likes of Consumer Reports, International Living and CNN—have begun to rate Nova Scotia among the world’s best places to vacation, live and retire, property costs have risen as much as 50% annually in some areas of the province. Yet despite the price increases, property here remains a fraction of what one would pay for similar real estate back home. And with enticements like some of the world’s most spectacular scenery, a relatively temperate climate (winters are milder than the northern U.S.), and a low profile, stress-free lifestyle far from the rat race, wars and terrorism, it’s easy to see why life looks so good under the Maple Leaf.

For details about White Point Estates, visit www.whitepointestates.com or contact Doug Fawthrop at 902-354-2711, ext. 370 (toll-free 800-613-2171), e-mail: doug@whitepoint.com.

Getting There

Nova Scotia is close enough to the U.S. and Europe that you won’t get jet lag getting there. The capital Halifax is a 2-hour flight from New York; 6 hours from London. Portland, Maine, from which the 5.5-hour ferry departs to Nova Scotia, is about a 90-minute drive from Boston. For ferry information, visit: www.catferry.com.

Where to Stay

White Point Estates offers a Site Inspection Package (couples for $159 weekdays; $199 weekends), allowing prospective buyers to visit for two nights at White Point Beach Resort while exploring all that the community has to offer. To reserve a tour, call 1-800-613-2171.

Golf Exercises to Help Maintain a Fixed Spine Angle in Your Golf Swing

Golf exercises can help you maintain a fixed spine angle in your golf swing. A number of components are required for successful golf shots. No matter if you are on the tee box or hitting a short iron shot to the green a fixed spine angle is necessary. As we all know alterations in your spine angle can easily cause compensations in your swing. Leading to miss-hits and bogies rather than birdies. One of these keys to improving your spine angle lies within golf fitness exercises and training.

Overall, a number of physical components are necessary for the execution of most any golf shot. The reason for this is connected to the requirement of drawing the club through a long range of motion on the correct swing plane. This leaves you with little room for error in either tempo or sequencing of every phase in the swing.

Now, in order to accomplish the requirements of the golf swing the amateur golfer must have certain levels of flexibility, balance, strength, and power. If the body is lacking in any or all of these physical components, execution of the golf swing may be difficult. So in order to provide you with the opportunity to hit your golf shots successfully we can implement golf fitness exercises into your training program to develop these parameters.

A quick review of the golf swing indicates a requirement of maintaining a fixed spine angle as well as additional postural positions. In order for your body to perform these requirements of the golf swing the muscles of your body require certain levels of strength.

Strength relative to the golf swing can be defined as the ability of your muscles to exert the required levels of force to perform the movements within the swing. If your body is lacking in the levels of strength required of the golf swing. The ability to maintain your spine angle and postural positions of the swing will be compromised.

As stated previously the process of developing muscular strength for the golf swing is relatively simple. It consists of utilizing golf specific strength training exercises to develop the required levels of strength to maintain a consistent spine angle in your golf swing.

One such strength exercises I often use with professional golfers for this goal is Bent Knee Marches. This is a simple exercise to perform and is very proficient at developing strength in the hips, abdominals, lower back, and hamstrings. All of which are important muscles in the maintenance of your spine angle.

Begin the exercise lying with your back flat on the floor, knees bent, and feet together. Point your toes upward by pressing the heels into the floor. Elevate your hips off the floor inline with your knees and shoulders.

Slowly lift the left heel off the floor maintaining a bend in the knee and hips elevated. Continue to lift the heel 3-4 inches off the floor, pause for one second, and return to the starting position of the exercise. Repeat the “lift’ with the right heel. Alternate back and forth for 10-15 repetitions.

Keep in mind there are a number of components required in the execution of your golf swing. One of which is a fixed spine angle. And order to maintain a fixed spine angle certain levels of muscular strength are required of your body. Muscular strength for the golf swing can be improved through golf exercises such as the one described above. Keep in mind it is a series of golf exercises within a golf fitness program that can have a positive effect on both your spine angle and golf swing.

Baseball, Title Ix and Jackie Robinson: It’s All About Discrimination

The baseball world recently celebrated “Jackie Robinson Day.” On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson became the first African-American to play Major League Baseball when he stepped onto Ebbets Field as a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Many commentators have lamented the fact that 60 years after Jackie Robinson broke baseball’s color barrier, today, only 8.4% of Major League Baseball (MLB) players are black. In fact, MLB has been going backwards. The current percentage of black players is the lowest in more than 20 years. Just over a decade ago, in 1995, 19% of MLB players were black.

No one disputes that the numbers of black professional baseball players is declining, the controversy is over why.

One article I read recently attributed the decline to baseball’s legacy of segregation and racism. The writer argued that because of its history, baseball fails to “capture the imagination” of today’s young black athletes.

Others have argued that inner-city black athletes face various economic challenges that limit their access to baseball fields, equipment, etc.

All of these arguments have some merit to them. But, ultimately, they fall short because other sports, like football and basketball, share baseball’s legacy of segregation and racism. Yet, black participation in those other sports has continued to grow.

Last week, a co-worker sent me an article about Title IX by Hubert Mizell of Gainesville.com. It hit me like a thunderbolt that Title IX is the most obvious reason there are so few blacks in pro baseball.

The way Title IX has been interpreted and implemented, it effectively restricts the number of baseball scholarships colleges and universities offer. In fact, most schools, even major schools like the University of Florida, do not offer any “full-ride” college baseball scholarships at all.

I was shocked when I found that out.

Obviously, without a scholarship, many, many young black athletes cannot afford to go to college and play college baseball or, later, professional baseball. Naturally, young black athletes will gravitate towards football and basketball; sports that offer more scholarships. Over the past generation, this shift has become pronounced.

Title IX was enacted by the Congress in 1972. The law, itself, is not controversial at all. It simply states that “No person in the United States, shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

So, Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex. It applies to discrimination in athletics. So far, so good. The problem comes in the interpretation of the law.

In 1979, The U.S. Department of Heath, Education, and Welfare (this was before we had a separate “Department of Education”) issued a policy interpreting Title IX. The policy provided that, in order to comply with Title IX, a college or university must pass one of three tests. The college or university must show that it:

1. Provides athletic opportunities substantially proportionate to student enrollment; or,

2. Demonstrates a continual expansion of athletic opportunities for the underrepresented gender; or,

3. Provides full and effective accommodation of the interest and ability of the underrepresented gender.

Many schools try to comply with Title IX by passing the third test. The problem is that this test is very subjective. How do you prove you are providing “full and effective accommodation of interest and ability….?” You can take surveys to get some gauge of interest. But, in the end, if a school relies on the third test, it will be vulnerable to a law suit by someone who thinks it has not complied.

Some of the larger, financially strong, schools comply with Title IX by meeting the second test. They “demonstrate a continual expansion of athletic opportunities for the underrepresented gender” by adding a women’s sports team. Every time a school does that, it is “good to go” for about five years. But, adding new sports is a money-losing proposition and smaller, less affluent, schools can’t afford to do that. At least, not forever.

So, ultimately, all schools will want, or need, to comply with Title IX by meeting the first test. And, it is this first test that has really caused the problems.

If a school has a Division I football team, it can award up to 85 football scholarships (per NCAA rules). The school can also award up to 13 scholarships for it’s men’s basketball team. Of course, to compete in these sports, at the Division I level, the school will have to award these 98 men’s athletics scholarships.

Women now make up a whopping 58% of college enrollment. So, to pass the first test, and award scholarships “substantially proportionate” to student enrollment, the school has to award about 110 scholarships to women just to equal the scholarships provided for men’s football and basketball.

And, when you add in other men’s sports – it becomes impossible to meet the “substantially proportionate” test without severely cutting scholarships in other men’s sports or dropping some sports altogether.

So, that’s exactly what schools do. When you look at sports like Tennis, Golf, Track and Field/Cross Country, Swimming/Diving – there are more scholarships awarded to women than men in each of these sports. Even in basketball – men’s college basketball teams get 13 scholarships; women’s teams get 15.

Wrestling is one of the biggest sports at most high schools. There is a large base of college wrestling fans. But, thanks to Title IX, there are few college wrestling scholarships.

James Madison University is the latest school to announce it will be dropping 10 sports; 7 men’s teams; 3 women’s teams in order to meet the “substantially proportionate” test of Title IX.

You might say: “well, they should just get rid of football.” The problem with that idea is that football is the only college sport that makes money. Men’s basketball about breaks even (if the school is lucky). No other college sport pays for itself.

This means the college will likely lose money on every other sports team it adds, including every women’s sports team. Football is the bill-payer for many of these sports at many schools. So, getting rid of football is not the answer.

So, what does all this have to do with Jackie Robinson and the lack of black professional baseball players today?

Here’s what.

Because of the way Title IX has been interpreted and implemented, college baseball programs are only allowed 11.7 scholarships. Since about 30 players are on a college baseball team, normally, no one gets a full scholarship.

So, baseball is becoming, increasingly, a sport for the relatively affluent. The reason is simple. You have to be able to afford to pay for college to play college baseball.

By contrast, in football and basketball, almost everyone on the team has a full scholarship.

For a young, black athlete, football and basketball offer a much more likely scholarship opportunity. It’s not surprising, then, that black athletes have gravitated toward football and basketball and away from baseball. It’s common sense.

It’s ironic that, Title IX, a law intended to limit sex discrimination in athletics has morphed into, perhaps, the most significant cause of sex, race and class discrimination in college athletics today.

5 Minutes Bible Study – Where Is Zebedee?

WHERE IS ZEBEDEE? by Dr. Harold Sala

And so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will catch men.” Luke 5:10

“Where is Zebedee?” asked George Stormont in Pointers. He continued, “I’ve been looking for him for nearly fifty years. The New Testament is haunted by his name. You read of his sons, his wife, his hired servants, his fishing; but you never meet him.”

To understand Stormont’s question and the issue, you need to know that Zebedee, of whom the writers of the New Testament speak, had two sons, James and John, two young men who were prominent in the ministry of Jesus. They came from a fishing village in Northern Galilee, Bethsaida—the ruins of which can still be seen today when a guide points them out from the tourist boat that takes visitors from Tiberias to Capernaum.

James and John were tending their father’s nets when Jesus walked by and challenged, “Follow me!” Along with Peter and Andrew, these four made the Galilee contingent of men who became disciples, walking away from their nets to follow Jesus.

We read of Zebedee’s wife, the mother of James and John, who—as mothers are prone to do in looking after the welfare of their sons—asked Jesus if her two boys couldn’t be on Jesus’ left and right. Yes, somewhat self-serving.

But what about the dad—Zebedee? He’s never mentioned! Was he dead? Probably not. Stormont answers his own question, “But where is Zebedee?” He says, “Busy…busy…busy minding his boats and mending his nets. He “wasn’t a mean man,” says Stormont. “He did not keep his wife or his boys from following Jesus. He [just] did not follow Jesus himself.”

There are a lot of Zebedees today: the missing dads who aren’t there for their kids, who are gone when their offspring take their first steps and hit their first baseball or toss their first basketball through the hoop. They aren’t there when a child comes home from school with the “my family” story written in scribbled penmanship, not mentioning a dad. But that’s not their greatest failure. Like Zebedee, consumed with climbing the ladder of success, they don’t follow Jesus. They sometimes intend to, but never do it.

One of the greatest social tragedies of our day is the missing father. Having made a baby, he’s off chasing his dream or another woman, failing to be there for his child. A dad’s involvement with his child not only helps that youngster excel academically, but also helps him understand who he is, what it means to be male or female, how we relate to our heavenly Father. Though it isn’t impossible, it is challenging to teach boys how to be men—godly caring men in particular—without a role model who is there, who leads the way spiritually.

The sad fact is that the number of kids growing up in a home where there has never been a dad is almost as great as those living in two-parent homes.Yes, I always think twice before I ask that question, “Where is Zebedee? Where is your child’s father?” I know that for most single moms, more than anything else, they wish a dad were there—for them as well as for the child. But men need to be challenged, and in some cases reproved, not simply for their sakes but for their offspring’s.

Question: Are you a Zebedee? Take a look at your appointment book and see how many days this past six months were spent with your son or daughter. How many weekends were you out of town, or golfing, or doing something apart from the family?

Where was Zebedee? Busy. Too busy. Occupied. Absent. The cost of what he missed could never be balanced by a few more fish, a few more coins in his purse, or a larger business. Some things are just not worth it.

Top Tips for Looking Beautiful and Staying Healthy

Beauty Brief has compiled a list of the best tips for 2009 on how to look great and feel great!

Tip#1: Myth: Eating Causes Wrinkles?!? Fact or Fiction?

It’s true! Overtime, eating sugar can actually make skin appear wrinkled and dull. A chemical process takes place in our bodies to cause this wrinkling effect known as glycation. Glycation occurs when sugar in the blood stream attaches to proteins and forms molecules called AGE (advanced glycation end-products). The easiest way to minimize the effects is to avoid eating foods high in sugar, and to definitely always wear sunscreen. Additionally, vitamins B1 and B6 inhibit the formation of AGE molecules, so try getting 1 mg a day of each.

Tip#2: Know Your Food Portions!

Portion control is an integral part of dieting and maintaining a healthy weight. To help identify what correct portion sizes are we have outlined proper serving sizes and related those portions to everyday items.

* 1 serving of meat (6oz) is about the size of a deck of cards
* A single serving of pasta, rice or potatoes (1/2 cup) is roughly the size of a golf ball or a small scoop of ice cream.
* 1 serving of vegetables or fruit is about the size of a tennis ball or a fist.
* 1 serving of cheese is just the size of 2 dominoes or 4 dice.

Tip#3: Get Lots of Sleep!

Getting enough sleep is essential to look younger, lose weight and feel great. Unfortunately, a recent survey found that 75% of Americans believe they are not getting enough sleep on a regular basis. Sleep deprivation causes our skin to look older and drier because during sleep is when our skin renews itself. So, make sure you are getting enough sleep every night. Make it a priority!

Tip#4: Eat Foods That Make Your Skin Glow!

Our skin is the body’s largest organ and it requires proper nutrition to stay healthy, beautiful and youthful looking. A, C, E & Selenium are necessary vitamins to help you look your best!

Foods Rich in Vitamin A: Broccoli, Spinach, Hale, Kale, Halibut, Red Peppers
Foods Rich in Vitamin C: Strawberries, Citrus Fruits, Tomatoes, Cantaloupes
Foods Rich in Vitamin E: Almonds, Asparagus, Avocados, Seeds, Olives
Foods Rich in Selenium: Nuts, Garlic, Poultry

Tip#5: Get Your Body Moving!

When you feel like there’s not enough time in the day or you just don’t know where or how to begin, we’ve put together a few tips on ways you can sneak exercise into your busy life without having to sacrifice anything on your to-do list.

1) If you take public transportation, get off a stop or two early and walk. Or, take the stairs instead of the elevator. And if you work in a high rise get off the elevator a few stories early and take the stairs the rest of the way. When going shopping, park at the far end of the parking lot.

2) Join a health club near your work so that you can more conveniently get a work out in during your lunch or before/after work.

3) Use you speaker phone at work and walk around the room while speaking.

4) Make sure you either stand, walk around or stretch at least once every hour, for even just a minute. It’s important to keep your blood circulating.

5) When traveling, walk around the airport while waiting for your flight instead of just sitting at the terminal.

Just doing a little bit of exercise every day counts. While you should try to get in at least 30 minutes a day, sometimes you just can’t, remember these simple tips and try to work them into various times throughout your day.

Remember, every little bit helps! Use common sense and reward yourself with a good book or iced tea instead of grabbing an unhealthy snack when you are following your diet. Take little walks around the building on your break, and call a friend to walk on the weekends. If you use these tips this year you will be on the road to not only looking beautiful but feeling good!

Golf Fitness Programs, Golf Exercises, and Golf Fitness Training to Improve Speed in the Golf Swing

Golf fitness programs, golf exercises, and golf fitness training are all beneficial to improving speed in the golf swing. A key for improvement in terms of increasing golf swing speed is utilizing golf fitness exercises which include core exercises. These types of golf exercises will help you to drive the golf ball farther off the tee box.

Golf fitness exercises are an integral part of increasing club head speed. The creation of ball speed occurs by improvement in two areas. Number one is your swing mechanics. The more efficient at which you execute the biomechanics of the golf swing, the greater amount of energy will be translated into the golf ball at impact. So, first and foremost, increasing club head speed is directly connected to your swing mechanics.

The second part of increasing club head speed is connected to your body. In order to execute the biomechanics of the golf swing efficiently, certain levels of flexibility, strength, endurance, and power are required from your muscular system. If you are lacking in any of these physical capacities, the ability to execute the golf swing will be inhibited.

The results will be compensations and a loss of club head speed at impact. In order to ensure the body has the required levels of flexibility, strength, endurance, and power to execute a swing, golf specific exercises can be implemented into a training program.

Such a training program will focus upon the core section of your body. The core is a reference to an anatomical area of the body from just above the knees to just below the chest. The core incorporates all the muscles of the front, sides, and back of the body. Muscles groups found within the core are the glutes, abdominals, obliques, and hamstrings.

Why does a golf fitness specific training program focus upon the core?

Simply because the majority of movements of the golf swing involve the musculature of the core, and for this reason these muscles need to be flexible, strong, and power.

Knowing the importance of the core relative to the golf swing, the next question to ask is how can we increase club head speed with training the core?

Club head speed in terms of the body is measured as power. Increasing the power outputs of the core will assist in improving your club head speed. Assuming you have developed the required levels of flexibility, strength, and endurance within the core to simply execute the biomechanics of the golf swing efficiently. The addition of power training exercises will assist in improving the power outputs for the golf swing.

These types of exercises will focus on creating increased force outputs by the core in a rotational movement pattern. Exercises often found in this section of a core program for golf are medicine ball side throws, medicine ball reverse throws, jump squats, and medicine ball overhead throws. All of these exercises develop the power outputs of the core over time if performed on a consistent basis.

Remember the importance of golf fitness exercises, golf exercises, and golf training programs for increasing club head speed. Increased ball speed is contingent upon both your swing mechanics and body. Improvement in both of these areas is required if the desire is to increase the distance of your drives. Utilize golf exercises to train the aformentioned areas of the body within a golf fitness program. Secondly, work on the actual mechanics of the golf swing through proper golf instruction and practice.

How to Lose 10 Pounds Or More Quickly and Safely

As reported in the U.S. Food and Drug Administrations recently published Calories Count – Report of the Working Group on Obesity, people who are overweight is a serious public health problem in the United States. Since the late 1980s, adult obesity has steadily and substantially increased in the United States. Today, 64 percent of all Americans weigh too much and over 30 percent are obese; in 1988 through 1992, fewer than 56 percent were overweight and fewer than 23 percent of American adults were obese.

The trends for children are even more worrisome. Recent research by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that 15 percent of children and adolescents aged 6 to 19 are overweight – double the rate of two decades ago. As Americans get heavier, their health suffers. Overweight and obesity increase the risk for coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. According to some estimates, at least 400,000 deaths each year may be attributed to obesity.

What people must know is that you can improve your health quickly with just a small amount of weight loss. We know that physical activity along with reduced calorie consumption can lead to the 5 to 10 percent weight loss necessary to achieve remission of the obesity-associated complications, says William Dietz, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Most doctors agree, losing one to two pounds a week is safe and recommended by most doctors for most people. This breaks down to 250 to 1,000 calories per day. You can achieve this easily if you follow some or all of the following guidelines :

1. Use skim milk instead of whole milk or cream in your coffee.
2. Eat low fat yogurt instead of ice cream.
3. Eat more bright colored (green, yellow, orange, red) fruits and vegetables.
4. Eat more lean fish, chicken, or turkey and cut down on red meats.
5. Eat whole wheat or multigrain bread, instead of white bread.
6. Use a sugar replacement instead of sugar (avoid Aspartame).
7. Drink water instead of soft drinks.
8. When you eat out, avoid fried foods.
9. Walk or do similar exercises (e.g. Golf, Tennis) at least 20 minutes a day.

If you do even just a couple of these every day for the next month, you will feel much better and you will lose weight.

And if you are concerned about getting hungry all the time, or losing your energy, try taking a safe appetite suppressant, like Hoodia Balance. This supplement is South African Hoodia from the Kalahari Desert, which makes it more effective. This type is a non-prescription medication and has been tested for years to be safe for most people. It can control your appetite, yet increase your metabolism and energy.

However, do not take any herbal supplement without checking with your Doctor first, if you are on any prescription medications, due to possible interactions between the two, or if you have a special medical condition.

If you follow these simple steps, you will surely reach your weight loss goals and become a much happier, healthier, and oh yes, lighter person.

Is Common Golf Knowledge Ruining Your Golf Swing?

Common Knowledge just might be hindering you from improving your swing, causing you major frustration and higher scores.

There is a lot of well meaning golf instruction in the market place today that simply will not help your game; in fact a lot of what’s out there will hinder you as you try to improve your golf.

The focus of my new site, (http://www.GolfMyths.com), is simply to identify this mis-information and to let players know, not only what the myths are, but why these myths are not true and how they do damage to your golf game.

Controversial? Probably, but I think the positives of the information I am putting out at GolfMyths.com will far outweigh any industry fall-out that I might receive from those instructors with stepped-on toes.

When David Ledbetter or any other of a host of well-meaning golf instruction gurus tells his touring professional student to “delay the rotation of the left hip”, or to “increase the width of your swing at the top”, “or to “delay the release as long as possible”, or any other “flavor of the day” type golf tips, he or she is talking with someone who is a professional, who practices hours on end, and who has an unbelievably acute feel for his or her own golf swing. This person also plays golf for a living. This is a completely different scenario than trying to teach a low, mid, or high handicap player or a beginner. These types of tips can absolutely wreak havoc on your golf swing and you can visit www.GolfMyths.com, and I’ll tell you exactly why.

Golf is a difficult game to play at the highest levels, but, having said that, it is not a complicated game to play. Most modern day instruction is hard for me to understand and I’ve been teaching the game for 20 years. Having said that, in order to excel, you have to free your mind of complicated mechanical thoughts and learn to simply swing the golf club.

Until you change the way you think about playing the game, change the fundamental way you look at golf instruction, and realize that you have to forget mechanics, you’ll never play up to your full potential as a golfer.

“Forget mechanics”, you ask, “why that’s all I think about.” I can hear your mind racing now; “Start the club back online, turn don’t sway, pull down with the left hand to start the down swing, transfer my weight to my left foot, roll my wrists at impact, head behind the ball.” YIKES! How can you even take the club back with all these mechanical thoughts you’ve picked up over the years racing through your head?”

The answer to my question is ….you can’t! You simply cannot swing the club effectively with all that garbage running through your mind, distracting you from what’s most important.

It’s sad, but absolutely true that thousands of people quit the game we all love every year, most out of sheer frustration.

If you have fallen into this trap of believing that mechanical tips, swing analysis, and pounding golf ball after golf ball on the driving range are the answers to your problems, you are destined to be frustrated forever.

Golf should be fun not frustrating and when you learn to forget mechanics and start playing the game via feel and sight, it will be fun and you’ll shoot better scores. I guarantee it!

“How do I do that”, you ask?

First you have to be able to differentiate fact from fiction and that’s what I’m going to help you do at www.GolfMyths.com.

Next, you have to forget all the theories, mechanical thoughts, and myths and focus on what is important to your game.

That’s right, I said your game, not Tiger’s, not Phil’s, not Big John’s but yours. Focus on the things that are important for you to play better. Focus on your swing path and the moment of truth..Impact. Tie swing path and impact into your target and you’re well on your way to longer, straighter shots, and lower scores.
